When it comes to eating grapefruit, it is also a special way to celebrate Taiwan's Mid-Autumn Festival. The Mid-Autumn Festival coincides with the grapefruit season. After eating the barbecue, you can consume grapefruit to relieve the greasiness of the barbeque and is seen to be a perfect match.

The grapefruit also has the pronunciation of "Youzi", which means to gain protection from deities, thus seen as an auspicious fruit to consume during Mid-Autumn celebrations.

In Taiwan, you cannot just simply cut the grapefruit in half and eat it. The grapefruit is peeled into a petal-like shape to make hats for children. Some artisans will paint on the skin of citron or make citron into the shape of small animals, which is beautiful and interesting.
